Eye-popping retro fifties glamour was the order of the day at the Gucci show yesterday at Milan Fashion Week. Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, turned her hand to bright colours mainly consisting of sunflower yellow and lolly pink against a black and white backdrop.

Bang on trend with full skirts and cinched in waists with wide, corset-like belts, I really adored the overly abstract designs. Some designs reflected an '80s power-suit style, particularly in the one-shoulder swimwear and oversized neck bow ties. Coloured check also featured heavily in everything from trousers to shirts to jackets.

Some critics claim that the show seemed incoherent and lacking in diversity but I happen to admire the cheeky blend of '50s rock n' roll with OTT '80s prints. Even filtering down to eveningwear, the colour palette of white, black and yellow maxi gowns were stylish, sophisticated and definitely wearable.
